A Sandlapper from Day One, I was born in the upstate of South Carolina and was fortunate to grow up at the foot of the mountains in Greenville County, enjoying an idyllic childhood exploring the creeks, mountains, and forests that blanket our state. I attended Blue Ridge High School and then matriculated at Wofford College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. I somehow found myself in the ROTC program after attending Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia and became a paratrooper. For the next four years, I was on active duty and was stationed as a Medical Service Corps officer at the military medical school in Bethesda, Maryland. Finding myself with time and restless intellectual energy, I enrolled in the graduate program at The Johns Hopkins University and received a Master’s degree in biotechnology and genetics in 1998. I realized that I should either pursue a Ph.D. in genetics or apply to medical school and ultimately chose the latter and found myself back in the state at the Medical University of South Carolina. I chose emergency medicine as my specialty and went on to train in residency at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia.
I founded Oasis Hyperbarics in 2007 and opened a hyperbaric oxygen facility in early 2008 and merged with East Cooper Medical Center two years later to bring into one place everything we would need for state-of-the-art wound care. Now, as the Comprehensive Wound Center, it is a thriving practice that provides world-class wound care to the great people of Mount Pleasant. I continue to practice emergency medicine at Summerville and Trident Medical Centers.
In early 2016, I joined forces with Dr. Todd Brown, as he launched Elite Healthcare Physical Medicine in Mount Pleasant SC, I’m in charge of directing and overseeing our patient’s medical care with the collaboration of our wonderful and very experienced Nurse Practitioner Traci Kennedy.
I am immensely blessed to live in the Low Country where my family and I avidly enjoy the maritime traditions of sailing, fishing, and shrimping that characterize this beautiful part of the planet as well as the rich cultural and historical resources for which Charleston is known.
Having recently relocated to Charleston in December 2017, my name is Traci Kennedy and I am thrilled to be a part of Elite Healthcare Physical Medicine’s team as the onsite Nurse Practitioner.
For 33 years, I was an ER Nurse in the Trauma I unit at IU Health Methodist Hospital downtown Indianapolis. Originally from Indiana, I am naturally an Indy 500 fan. I spent 25 years working as a trauma nurse at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at the inside track hospital for the Indy 500, Formula One, Nascar and Moto GP taking care of the drivers as well as all event attendees. In 2013 I went back to school to pursue my Family Nurse Practitioner’s degree. Upon graduating in 2016 I began working at Franciscan Immediate Health Care where I worked for two years as an Family Nurse Practitioner, until relocating to Charleston, South Carolina.
Practicing medicine and taking care of others is my passion in life, but when I am not working I enjoy golf, tennis, traveling, sailing, and walking my dog Lucy. I also have two daughters named Stephanie and Tiffany, who I love to travel and spend time with as frequently as possible. One of my new favorite pastimes in Charleston is trying out new culinary options, so if you come in, please be sure to share your recommendations!

Additional Information: I moved to Charleston from Youngstown, OH six years ago. We relocated because my boyfriend got a job at Wild Dunes on IOP. I spent 6 years working for a non-profit Domestic Violence Shelter in Ohio before becoming interested in Massage Therapy. My stepfather has always suffered from low back, neck and should pain. After seeing a chiropractor for a while he was referred to a massage therapist. I witnessed a transformation in him and was inspired. I decided I wanted to be able to help people in the same way. I soon enrolled at Southeastern Institute in North Charleston. I picked SEI because of their focus on Neuromuscular techniques. I wanted to obtain as many skills as possible in order to help people in the best way.
I truly enjoy getting to know our patients and look forward to meeting you soon!
